The first biennial conference entitled ‘Heart-Brain Integration: New Insights into Leadership, Group, and Well-being’ was successfully held at JUFE on13-14th November 2014. The conference was organized by Research Center for Innovation and Strategic Human Resource Management and School of Business Administration, Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, aiming to provide platform for the presenting of the forefront research achievements in the field of leadership, group, and well-being and promoting academic exchange for researchers at home and abroad. Prof. Zhiyan Feng, Director of Business Administration Office, Management Science Department, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Yu Li, Deputy Party Secretary of the Development and Research Center, Anhui Provincial Government, Prof. Jürgen Deller, Director of the Research Center for Strategic Human Resource Management at Leuphana Universität Lüneburg, Germany, Prof. Alex Haslam, Prof. Jolanda Jetten, and postdoctoral fellow Niklas Steffens from the University of Queensland, Prof. Dean Tjosvold, fomer Academic Dean of Business School at Lingnan University, Hong Kong, Chongwei Wang, PHD candidate at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Jianxin Deng, Chairman of Nanchang Municipal Public Investment holding Co., Ltd., and Li hua, President of Tellhow Group Co., Ltd., were invited as keynote speakers. More than 70 teachers and graduate students attended the conference.
• Professor Jinfa Jiang, Vice Chancellor of JUFE, delivered a welcome speech during the opening ceremony in representative of the school, and extended a warm welcome to all the Chinese and foreign experts, scholars and other guests. He introduced the school’s important achievements in aspects of scientific research and teaching in recent years, expressed the positive significance of this conference, and wished the conference a success. The opening ceremony was presided by Prof. JieYang, Director of the ISHRM Centre.
• During the conference, Yu Li and Zhiyan Feng delivered brilliant speeches on themes of ‘Appling for NSFC Fund’ and ‘Applying for World Bank Fund and Asian Development Bank’. Zhiyan Feng introduced a series of research projects and talent projects of the NSFC. She discussed in detail the key topics and directions in the field of human resources management, and expounded several issues need to be focused on when applying for the NSFC Fund. Feng affirmed the efforts of the ISHRM Center in international cooperation, and said that ‘The ISHRM Center sets a precedent for the exploration and deepening of international cooperation for the NSFC Fund.’
Foreign experts delivered several keynote speeches focused on theme of the conference, including ‘Leadership for Cooperative Teamwork’, ‘The Influence of the Leadership for Cooperative Teamwork in Chinese Organization on Productivity and Well-being’, ‘The Social Cure: Multiple group memberships promote resilience and well-being’, ‘Silver Workers Study’, 'Leader Identity Entrepreneurship as a Basis for Employee Well-being’, and ‘Benevolent Leadership and Subordinates’ Citizenship Behaviors’, and interacted with participant representatives.
• In the lectures by famous domestic entrepreneurs, Jianxin Deng and Hua Li gave keynote speeches on themes of ‘The Institutional and Cultural Puzzles in the Transition of State-owned Enterprises’ and ‘The Temptations and Puzzles of the Mixed Ownership Economy’, taking their own companies as an example. They also conducted in-depth exchanges with delegates on issues about corporate leaders’ position, salary, appointment mechanism and their far-reaching impact on company.
• Jie Yang chaired the closing ceremony of the Conference. He expressed his gratitude to all the scholars at home and abroad for their support to the ISHRM Center. And made a wonderful conclusion for the conference by saying that ‘As an effective leader, you should not ask what your employees could do for you, ask what you can do for your employees’, and quoting Confucius’ words of Tze-chan to illustrate the characteristics of a superior man---in his conduct of himself, he was humble; in serving his superior, he was respectful; in nourishing the people, he was kind; in ordering the people, he was just.
• A major innovation of the conference is that guests at home and abroad with the most say in the related topics chaired the keynote speeches. Prof. Yuchen Hu, Dean of School of Business Administration, Prof. Ming Chen, Vice Dean of School of Business Administration, Prof. Jie Yang, Director of ISHRM, Associate Prof. Xinyan Wang and Doctor Xiaobin Xiong from the ISHRM Center also chaired the keynote speeches. Their refined and humorous remarks added highlights to the keynote speeches given by guests at home and abroad.
