On November 15th, our school’s case center held the 10th seminar in 2019. Professor Shan-Ling Pan, who is the Director of the School of Information Systems at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia and a research fellow at the Humboldt Center for Internet and Society in Germany, was invited to give us a lecture of the theme “Usable, In-Use, and Useful Research: A 3U Framework for Demonstrating Practice Impact”, at room 516 of the Yingfu building. The lecture was hosted by the dean of our school, Haibo Hu. Many professors and graduate students attended the seminar.

Prof. Pan addressed a question first, “What contribution does business research really make to the society?”. This question attracted everyone’s attention, and he started to introduce “the composition of practice impact, the importance of practice impact and the way to create practice impact based on the results of foreign research. Then he gave an in-depth explanation on the 3U Framework for Demonstrating Practice Impact: Usable, In-Use and Useful, with the demonstration of some case studies. Many audiences actively participated in the discussion and raised their confusions, all of which were carefully answered by Prof. Pan.

At the end of the lecture, Dean Haibo Hu concluded that Professor Pan’s lecture was an in-depth exploration of the major problem of how to transfer business school research into practice, and provided cutting-edge guidance for graduate students and teachers on how to establish correct research values. This lecture had improved the teachers’ and students' understanding of the practice impact of business research, and had helped to strengthen the practice impact of our research results, creating more value for the society.
