Professor Hu Haisheng's team publishes research results in Tourism Economics

Recently, Professor Hu Haisheng and his master's student Liu Decai, as well as Professor Yang Yang from Temple University in the United States, published a research paper titled "Can Regional Revitalization Policies Boost Tourism Growth in Underdeveloped Areas? Evidence from China's Revolutionary Base Areas" in Tourism Economics. Tourism Economics is a dual regional journal of JCR Economics and Tourism and Leisure Management.

Regional policies and support are important driving factors for promoting regional tourism development. The article constructs a difference in differences (DID) model and uses the "Several Opinions of the State Council on Supporting the Revitalization and Development of Former Central Soviet Areas such as Gannan" as an example to evaluate the impact of the regional revitalization policy on tourism development in relevant regions through quasi natural experimental methods. Research has found that regional revitalization policies have a significant promoting effect on tourism development. Further analysis of the causal relationship between policies and tourism development through the mediation effect model shows that regional revitalization policies promote tourism development through two paths: promoting economic growth and improving transportation accessibility. Based on the analysis of provincial heterogeneity, this policy has a stronger implementation effect in Guangdong and Fujian provinces, which have higher levels of economic development. The article proposes that revolutionary old areas should attach importance to the important role of the tourism industry in regional coordinated development. When developing characteristic tourism according to local conditions, blind and extensive resource development models should be avoided, and tourism promotion should be strengthened to enhance the accessibility of tourism between scenic spots and regions.
